Lot 1565

1860-D. Medium D. PCGS graded MS-62 CAC Approved. A nice strike with lovely golden toning and a Premium Quality coin for the grade. Only 14,635 struck with about 185 examples estimated to have survived. Sharp strike on both sides with exceptional detail on the eagle and shield. Relatively few examples from that mintage exit today in any grade. A delightful Mint State 62 specimen, a prize for half eagle collectors.

Date logotype on the 1860-D is slightly larger than that seen on the Charlotte Mint half eagle of the same year. Logotype low in field, top of 1 perhaps three times farther from truncation than bottom is from dentils, left edge of lower serif over space between dentils. Reverse D mintmark high and close to arrow feather and olive branch, upright of D mostly over E below. Pop 8; 1 finer in 64 (PCGS # 8286) .
Estimated Value $11,000 - 12,000.
The William H & Beuelaress K. Helem Collection.

Realized $24,150
