Lot 1532

1851-D. PCGS graded AU-50. A nice strike and lightly toned. Only 62,710 minted of which merely 145 examples are estimated to have survived. This is a very scarce issue which is quite elusive in higher grades, a true rarity when fully Mint State. As Douglas Winter has pointed out in his writings, there has been a grade escalation in recent years. The present piece is attractive enough that we would not be at all surprised if one of these times it emerged as AU53 or 55. Pop 15; 30 finer (PCGS # 8248) .
Estimated Value $2,100 - 2,200.
The William H & Beuelaress K. Helem Collection.

Realized $4,370
