Lot 89

1844 N-8 R6+ Proof-Only. PCGS graded Proof 64 Red & Brown. Light bluish steel brown with a third of the mint red remaining, mostly on the obverse. There is some darker steel brown toning over star 10 and a small spot of similar toning right of star 7, plus a speck of reddish carbon under the right foot of the first A in AMERICA. A fine struck-through line passes through the upper left point of star 10 and a couple other very light ones are located above and below the E in CENT, all as struck. The obverse fields are moderately reflective while the reverse mirrors are deep. A beautiful example of this proof-only variety. Called Proof-64 and tied for second finest known in the Denis Loring census. Our grade is Proof-64, tied for CC#2 in the Grellman census. The attribution and Dan Holmes provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; the only Proof graded at PCGS for the variety. DWH #1857 (PCGS # 408568) .
Estimated Value $10,000-UP.
