Lot 2303

1909, 9 over 8. PCGS graded MS-63. Housed in an Old Green Holder. Nice original gold toning. The 1909/8 is the only Saint-Gaudens overdate in the series, and it is generally seen through the lower Mint State grades. The situation changes quite in the better Uncirculated grades such as MS63 a level of preservation that is both attractive and affordable. The example presented here has characteristic natural toning patina intermixed with pale reddish-gold over both obverse and reverse. The frosty surfaces display full luster though this is muted by the toning, still with areas of "flash" to the coin, something that is atypical of this issue (PCGS # 9151) .
Estimated Value $3,400 - 3,500.
The Wayne Fowler Estate.

Realized $4,140
