Lot 1476

1927-S. PCGS graded MS-65. Frosty and lightly toned. A virtually fully struck Gem with a light overlay of ice-white haze that nicely captures the silvery color. Close examination reveals some minor softness in the detail at the leg and hand. Destined for a fine Walking Liberty Half Dollar collection.

One of only five half dollar issues between 1922 and 1932, the 1927-S most likely saw extensive circulation throughout the late 1920s and early 1930s. The scarcity of Gem quality examples enhances the desirability.

With the introduction of the 1927 issue the mint redesigned the drapery lines at and below Liberty's right shoulder by putting them into stronger relief; there is also a strong incuse border around the flag and curl below Liberty's right arm, separating it from the lower level of the flag and giving it an appearance of being in higher relief. Pop 56; 6 finer in 66 (PCGS # 6587) .
Estimated Value $6,000 - 6,500.

Realized $7,188
