1864 Indian Head Cent. Copper-nickel. PCGS graded Proof 64 Cameo. Only 370 Proofs minted. The obverse is delicately toned while the reverse exhibits tantalizing multi-colored shades. Struck with true scientific precision on the well frosted devices. All feathers clearly displayed. The word LIBERTY is in sharp relief on the headband as well. 1864 was something of a transition year when it comes to the Indian cent. The year opened with this thick, copper-nickel 72-grain Type. A few months later, a newer 48-grain bronze motif was introduced. Then, towards the end of 1864, the designer's initial "L" (for Longacre) was added to the ribbon end below the last feather, producing yet a third version. Pop 22; 27 finer, 21 in 65, 5 in 66, 1 in 67 (PCGS # 82265) .
Estimated Value $1,300 - 1,400.

Realized $1,323
