Lot 4692

1893 $5 Liberty. PCGS graded Proof 63 Deep Cameo. Lovely rich golden toning on both sides. Only 77 Proofs struck. As often occurs in the curious field of American numismatics, the commonness of business strike 1893 half eagles is more than counterbalanced by the low-mintage Proofs, which are today only rarely offered for sale. Of the few Proofs that were sold, today no more than pittance are extant in all grades. The following population figures show this explicitly. This lovely Proof 63 has well saturated orange patina over both sides that overlaps the reflectivity in the fields. Ultimately, the frosted devices give this piece its strong contrast with the moderately devices themselves being choice, fully dimensioned, and keen-edged in all the critical areas. There are a few minor hairlines restricting the grade to '63, but these hardly affect the coin's beauty and unquestionable fresh appearance. Pop 2; 5 finer, 4 in 64, 1 in 66 (PCGS # 98488) .
Estimated Value $10,000 - 12,000.

Realized $13,225
