Lot 4684

1874-S $5 Liberty. NGC graded AU-55. Only 16,000 minted. Rare in all grades, as is true of quite a few half eagles of this era. A hint of light toning with some scattered abrasions in the field. Luster can be found in the areas protected by the devices. At the San Francisco Mint half eagles were strictly for use in commerce. Today when an example is encountered it is apt to be Fine or Very Fine. That is why this nice AU55 would be a good coin to acquire for a date set made up of beautiful high condition cabinet pieces. Pop 12; 12 finer in 58 (PCGS # 8335) .
Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,500.

Realized $3,910
