Lot 4679

1866 $5 Liberty. With motto. PCGS graded MS-62. Well struck with a hint of light golden toning. There is a small chattermark by the fourth star and another area of disturbance below the sixth. A very special coin for this lustrous grade it displays boldness on the devices typical for a P-mint half eagle, with the coin swimming in color. We note a few tiny die polish lines above the eagle at the top of the reverse. First year of issue with IN GOD WE TRUST added on a scroll above the eagle, creating a new With Motto Type. Very few Mint State coins have been certified by PCGS or NGC. Only 6,700 struck. NGC has graded one example in MS62. Pop 1; none finer @ PCGS. Tied for the finest graded (PCGS # 8311) .
Estimated Value $15,000 - 20,000.

Realized $25,300
