Lot 3598

1795 C-6a R2. Fine-15. Struck over cut-down Talbot Allum & Lee Cent. Attractive glossy medium brown and light chocolate. No roughness or significant contact marks, but there is a rather large planchet crack from the rim right of the Y in LIBERTY down to the front edge of the nose where it fades out. This planchet crack passes all the way through the planchet and affects the C in AMERICA. Evidence of the TAL Cent undertype is visible at the dentils left of the lower hair curls and over ED in UNITED. EDS, Manley state 1.0. The date and legends are complete and strong. The planchet crack is a mint-made defect that certainly catches the eye.
Estimated Value $800 - 1,000.

Realized $920
