Lot 2938

1879 Trade Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 64 PQ. Old green holder. A fullt white gem with a nice cameo look. A lock PF65 cameo coin. Well detailed with extraordinary mint sparkle and more than a little frosted whiteness on the devices that is capped off by the careful PCGS grade of 64. A great deal of stress is laid on the strike detail of these Trade dollars since even some Proofs can be poorly made. However, this piece is well struck on all devices, the stars in particular needle-sharp. In the design, Liberty stares before her with a fixed expression as she extends towards the West (meaning, the Far East) an olive branch of peace. She is seated on a bale of cotton, behind which unfolds a sheaf of wheat. At her toes, so close she could tickle them in the surf, is the seashore. At the base of the hay bale, the motto IN GOD WE TRUST while held in her hand is a scroll with LIBERTY inscribed in incuse letters. 1,541 Proofs struck. Pop 123;65 finer; 36 in 65; 22 in 66; 7 in 67. (PCGS # 7059) .
Estimated Value $3,000 - 4,000.

Realized $5,520
