Lot 2905

1803 Draped Bust Dollar. Small 3. . B-5, BB-252, Rarity 3. PCGS graded AU-53. Lovely shades of blue, purple and golden toning. This obverse differs from BB-251. It too has a thin top to the 3, but here the 3 is placed too high. Figures of the date are all close. Stars 8 and 13 are about equidistant from Y and bust, and much closer than stars 1 and 7 are from hair and L. The 3 almost touches bust, while the 1 is near curl. This obverse die used to strike 1803 BB-252 only. It is paired to Reverse A: which earlier was used to strike 1801 BB-214, and repeated with 1803 BB-251. Pop 2; none finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 40097) .
Estimated Value $6,000 - 7,000.
The Dr. Hesselgesser Duplicate Bust Dollar Collection.

Realized $8,625
