1900 $10 Liberty. NGC graded Proof 65 Ultra Cameo. A hint of light golden toning. A wonderful looking coin. Matched for color, texture, surface originality and appearance with the other denominations from this consignment, the coin is, true to form, utterly radiant! Blazing-gold mirrors with crisp definition on the frosted devices and "ultra" clean surfaces free of tarnish spots and handling marks. Definitely, a premium example of the grade. Having covered the mint bloom, we take stock of the coin's detail. Clockwork precision seen in the stars and hair curls, as well as the tiny beads which tie the hair into a bun at the back of Liberty's head. The lovelock curl is crisply detailed also. Turning next to the reverse, full razor-sharpness is also displayed: in the eagle's plumage, its feet, the shield with its horizontal lines and vertical stripes. Lastly, all letters in IN GOD WE TRUST are crisply defined. For the ordinary collector, the recent introduction of high-art methods into Proof gold issuance is sufficient to entice one to purchase a recent mint product. But to the sophisticated buyer of more refined tastes, these early pieces, with their "classic" appearance and careful attention to detail, are the crème de la crème of rare coin collecting!
