Lot 2096

1916 Liberty Standing Quarter Dollar. NGC graded MS-66 Full Head. Popular key dae. Well struck with a hint of light reverse toning. A one-in-a-thousand example of this popular first-year issue, with explosive yet satiny luster that gleams over pristine surfaces. There are no spots. There is a full display of natural silvery sheen in the underlying patina. Having covered the mint bloom, we take stock of the coin's detail. Clockwork precision seen in the head and drapery folds of Liberty, as well as in the complete rivets visible on the shield. The low-flying eagle (which would be more centrally located in the Type 2 pieces) displays razor-sharp plumage on its body and wings. Put a glass to this coin anywhere and the viewer will come away breathless from its beauty. There is no escape for the bidder; forget about posting a flabby bid; anyone who does should forget about winning it. This coin will definitely go up to a strong price in today's marketplace for strictly graded, high-end rarities! Pop 17; 3 finer in 67. (PCGS # 5704) .

Hermon (with an 'O') MacNeil made the designs for a quarter dollar which was "intended to typify in a measure the awakening interest of the country to its own protection." Liberty is shown "stepping forward to the gateway of the country." The shield is raised "in the attitude of protection." "The right hand bears the olive branch of peace."
Estimated Value $24,000 - 26,000.

Realized $39,100
