Guatemala. 8 Escudos, 1824-NG M. Fr-26; KM-8. Republic of Central America. Sun over five mountain peaks. Reverse Tree. First gold issue of the new republic. A few minor surface marks, otherwise well struck with considerable luster. A classic rarity. Very rare with few known pieces for the two year type. There are perhaps only a falf dozen example known in high grade. This type not in the Eliasberg collection. An example of this type in the Superior, August 1975 sale realized $20,000, 32 years ago. (A coin which typically catalogs and realizes triple it's Costa Rica counterpart. The Eliasberg Costa Rican example realized $29,900). NGC graded AU-58.
