Lot 2988

1892 Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 64 Cameo. A sparkling white gem. Only 1,245 Proofs struck. In point of fact, this is a satiny frosted coin by all measures, and aesthetically enjoyable to view as well. Supple underlying frost on the devices is enveloped in nice satiny iridescence. The fields that surround are deep and reflective, smooth as water, hence the term often used for Morgan dollar Proofs, "watery mirrors." Pleasing examples of the date are not too often encountered, certainly not as completely struck as this outstanding coin. Indeed, we find sufficient detail in the head, eagle, and legends of the design to point them out to bidders as extra special. Eager attendees seated in the auction room may or may not require a safety belt to hold them firmly in place when the inevitable dynamic, chair-rattling bidding begins. Pop 17; 14 finer; 3 in 65; 9 in 66; 2 in 68. (PCGS # 87327) .
Estimated Value $3,000 - 3,500.
