Lot 2628

1820 Capped Bust Quarter Dollar. Large 0. . B-1. NGC graded MS-64 PQ. Great colors, blue gold and lilac. Although uniformly frosted under the toning, the fields are slightly brighter in the centers than the peripheries on both sides. Lovely iridescence is noted throughout, with the overall appearance suggestive of a higher grade. Bold strike throughout. Consider this a premium level coin that is sure to please just about any collector.

A total 127,444 large size quarter dollars dated 1820 were minted from a combination of three obverse and four reverse dies to produce five varieties. Three of the four reverse dies were used in later years. Browning-1 is currently believed to be Rarity-3. It is distinguished by its large 8 and 0 in date; also, the U in UNITED is relatively close to the wingtip. Very similar to Browning-2, however the location of the second T in STATES relative to the I in PLURIBUS confirms the variety. Pop 1; None finer. (PCGS # 5329) .
Estimated Value $9,500 - 10,000.

Realized $11,155
