Lot 1709

1868-S $20 Liberty. PCGS graded MS-62 PQ. Nice original peach-orange toning on both sides. Well struck, quite choice and a Premium Quality coin for the grade. Consistent with many S-mint dates in the post-Civil War era, the 1868-S is sometimes overlooked and is definitely an underrated coin in mint condition. The fact is, this handsome MS62 is the only one so graded by PCGS! Moreover, it offers the viewer original mint color and luster whose deep golden-orange patina shines with considerable effect, especially where it counts. Adequately struck, as always seen (sharp strikes are almost never encountered, even when circulated), there are a few slight abrasions present for the grade. Obviously destined for a home in a museum-class set of early twenties. Pop 1; Finest graded at PCGS (PCGS # 8954) .
Estimated Value $28,000 - 30,000.

Realized $29,900
