Lot 581

1829 Coronet Head Cent. . N-5, R3+. VF-30 Small Letters Reverse. Ten points sharper with a patch of fine porosity at the top of the hair bun, a planchet void or pitmark in the hair over the B in LIBERTY, and a small area of very light roughness above the N in ONE. No verdigris or contact marks. Frosty mottled mix of steel brown and chocolate with slightly reddish chocolate toning in the obverse fields. The fields and protected areas are covered with attractive flowline luster. In fact, the luster and eye appeal of this cent suggest a significantly higher sharpness grade, but the strike is weak in the usual places limiting the overall sharpness grade regardless of wear. The wear, in fact, is limited to the highpoints and is insignificant. MDS with some crumbling in the dentils at stars 3-5. Removed from an NCS slab graded EF details with environmental damage (NCS label included, and it shows the Reiver provenance). Near the lower end of the condition census.
Estimated Value $250 - 500.
Ex Jules Reiver, Heritage 1/24/06:19911.
