Lot 2187

1881 $2.50 Liberty. PCGS graded MS-61. Reflective surfaces and ightly toned. A very rare date. PCGS number 10808140. Here is one of the very best known of this rare date, only 640 were coined and most entered circulation. This is one of the rare Mint States graded by PCGS, with few finer. A coin that wins applause because it is prooflike in the fields (but not struck with the Proof dies). Most new dies were polished to prepare them to strike coins, but so few were struck in 1881 on the standard coining press used for circulation strikes, the dies never lost their polish. Well struck by the dies, which further improves the situation, and with only minimal hairlines and handling marks. Another rare offering for the advanced numismatist. Only 640 coins struck. Pop 7; 4 finer in 62. (PCGS # 7833) .
Estimated Value $8,000 - 9,000.

Realized $8,050
