Lot 2184

1875 $2.50 Liberty. PCGS graded AU-58. Very rare date. Nicely toned with semi reflective fields. Similar to the other low mintage gold dated 1875 from this Mint, the quarter eagle was produced to the tune of a mere 400 business strikes. The estimate of those remaining varies from as few as 15 to as high as 30 coins. Stated another way, there is little doubt that this date is among the keys within the Liberty quarter eagle series. A solid representative of the AU58 grade, this coin displays full prooflike surfaces, rich with orange-gold overtones, and contrasting frosted devices. The cameo relief is evident on Liberty as well as the eagle. Sharply defined with a few light, grade-constraining abrasions over both sides. Only a few Mint State examples are traced to the main grading services. Pop 3; 4 finer; 2 in 60; 1 in 61; 1 in 62. (PCGS # 7822) .
Estimated Value $13,000 - 15,000.

Realized $19,550
