Lot 1976

1937-D Oregon Trail Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-68. Well struck with lovely golden toning around the edges. A near perfect coin. This coin radiates attractive original color from the issue card, with no detracting marks or problems. Superb and sharply struck on obverse and reverse. Designs are by Laura Gardin Fraser. Many are of the opinion the Oregon Trail is one of the classiest designs ever used on a commemorative issue. On the obverse, the artist depicts an Indian with blanket and bow. On the reverse, a Conestoga wagon of the period heading into the sunset. Oregons were struck intermittently from 1926 to 1939 at the various mints. Several issues have extremely low mintage. Pop 36; 1 in 69. (PCGS # 9347) .
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,500.

Realized $1,725
