Lot 1860

1904-O Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded MS-67. Old green holder. Wonderful color on both sides. A glowing freshness is emitted from undisturbed original toned surfaces. The effect that is created is one of richness and beyond, superb beyond compare. Pop 25; none finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7292) .

1904 is the year that saw the release of Edwin S. Porter's "The Great Train Robbery," the first well-known American film. The 14-minute, single-reel movie was also featured at the opening of the first modern movie theater in 1905, in Pittsburgh. Porter, working in Thomas Edison's laboratory, developed the principle of editing. By piecing together films from the stockroom he had earlier made "The Life of an American Fireman," which was released in 1903 to a limited audience.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,500.
