Lot 1492

1938-D Liberty Walking Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-65. A frosty gem with just a hint of toning starting to form. With 491,600 mintage, the 1938-D has the lowest production in the 1930s. Both sides are remarkably lustrous with fresh silvery color and a spray of patina in the upper right hand quadrant. Possessed of a much finer strike than is typically found for a '38-D, only a portion of Liberty's hand shows lack of detail, while the eagle's leg (also a high point in the design) has much but not all of the feathers showing. Broad rims give a nice picture-frame quality around the inner design (PCGS # 6605) .
Estimated Value $1,200 - 1,300.

Realized $1,208
