Lot 69

1783 Chalmers Annapolis Shilling. Long worm. . Breen-1012. PCGS graded VF-30. Glossy light gray with lighter silvery gray highpoints. No contact marks or other distractions. A tiny planchet clip over the S in CHALMERS is the best identifying mark. Struck very slightly off center to the right causing strike weakness on that side, but everything remains legible. The long worm feature is clear. (The long worm version is seen less often than its short worm counterpart.) These were struck in Annapolis, Maryland, by silversmith John Chalmers in an attempt to help alleviate the chronic shortage of acceptable small change.
Estimated Value $3,000 - 6,000.

Realized $4,888
