Lot 912

1787 Fugio Cent. Pointed rays, cinquefoils, "STATES UNITED". PCGS graded MS-61 Brown. Glossy medium brown and chocolate. The planchet is mostly smooth and attractive, but there are some fine, nearly vertical striations on the left edge of both sides, as struck. The planchets for these federally contracted cents were seldom if ever perfect, and this planchet is relatively nice in spite of the minor imperfections. The date is bold while the FU in FUGIO are weak due to the relatively thin planchet in that area. Most likely from the famous Bank of New York Hoard of mint state FUGIO cents (discussed earlier). The Newman 13-X variety was the most common one found in the hoard (PCGS # 883) .
Estimated Value $750 - 1,000.
The Greenhill Collection.

Realized $2,415
