1873 Indian Head Cent. Closed 3. PCGS graded MS-64 Red & Brown. Faded mint red. A pleasing and colorful example of this popular issue from the early 1870s. The Closed 3 date style is used on the Proofs and also the early business strikes made prior to Chief Coiner A.L. Snowden's complaint on January 18th regarding the similarities of the look of the date to 1878. All Proofs this year are of the closed 3 style. The reported mintage of 1,100 seems to be in line with the availability of examples seen in the marketplace. This is a very challenging coin to locate in full red condition. Sloppy die preparation seems to be the culprit, which produced coins that do not seem to excite very often. Pop 53; 20 finer in 65. (PCGS # 2110) .
Estimated Value $300 - 330.

Realized $633
