1879 Trade Dollar. GLEAMING MULTICOLOR TONED PROOF 1879 TRADE DOLLAR. PCGS graded Proof 66. Lovely rainbow toning on both sides. Very high end coin. Pop 22; 7 finer in 67. Glistening fields rise and fall with original mint reflectivity and "bloom" off the dies. Against this are set serious, frosty design elements and outstanding colorful toning with reds, blues, and gold predominating. The mintage of Proof Trade Dollars resulted from the Coinage Act of 1873, a major piece of legislation altering many parts of America's coinage system. Proofs were struck every year from 1873 until 1883. But with the demise of Trade Dollars struck for circulation purposes after 1878, Proofs-only were minted in the later years. This resulted in very low mintage and, today, consistent high levels of interest from collectors. This splendid Proof 66 is among the sharpest preserved specimens to whet the appetite of any appreciative buyer (PCGS # 7059) .
Estimated Value $9,000 - 10,000.

Realized $11,788
