Lot 2821

1866 Liberty Seated Dollar. With motto. PCGS graded Proof 64 Cameo. A hint of lilac toning near the edges. Only 725 proofs struck. For the most part untoned with blazing mirror luster that atones for a few microscopic hairlines on the attractively preserved surfaces. There is rich contrast between the reflective field and frosted images of Liberty and eagle on this well struck piece. The stars, too are sharp as a tack, with all other design elements fully meeting the strict criteria for the grade. A scarce silver dollar minted in the first year of what has come to be known as the Reconstruction Era in post-Civil War America, where business expanded rapidly and new legions of coin collectors were added to the hobby. Pop 10; 10 finer; 7 in 65; 2 in 66; 1 in 68. (PCGS # 87014) .
Estimated Value $5,000 - 5,500.

Realized $6,038
