Lot 2442

1925-D $20 St. Gaudens. PCGS graded MS-64. Well struck. Exhibiting natural two-tone mint luster. More challenging than the '24-D, the '25-D is a condition rarity above Mint State 63 with Akers rating MS 64s as a low R.7 in that lofty grade although the population records has since caused the figure to be revised downward to R.5. Perhaps it is too brief a statement to simply say "Choice coin" for a description of this piece. But that is undoubtedly just what will be said at lot viewing for this sale. The mint luster is quietly superb, being bright and frosted, with only the smallest imperfections on the surfaces. Definitely a high-end example of this rare Saint-Gaudens date. Pop 79; 5 finer; 3 in 65; 2 in 66. (PCGS # 9181) .
Estimated Value $16,000 - 17,000.
The Greenhill Collection.
