Lot 2257

1860 $20 Liberty. PCGS graded MS-62 PQ. An intensely lustrous example, light golden color. Frosty mint luster on the obverse, satin mint luster on reverse.577,690 coins minted. This is an particularly important occasion, since 1860 is anything but common in Mint State condition. The coin is a fully brilliant example with vivid (and frosty) yellow-gold luster throughout, with a few trace wisps of pinkish color. The often abundant abrasions found on Mint State Type 1 double eagles are virtually nonexistent; and only a few light hairlines keep this from the Choicer MS63 grade level. With the massive gold discoveries in California, erection and operation of the San Francisco Mint meant that less gold had to be transported to Philadelphia, thus lower mintages resulted. Pop 3; 9 finer. (PCGS # 8929) .
Estimated Value $7,000 - 8,000.
The Greenhill Collection.

Realized $9,488
