Lot 2208

1871-CC $10 Liberty. PCGS graded AU-58. Lightly toned and a very scarce date. 1871-CC clocks in as another unquestioned rarity among the $10 issues produced at this Nevada branch mint. Relatively few were struck (in this case, 8,025), and all are believed to have reached circulation. There was no collector response to such high-value gold pieces at the time, so the few survivors have only by chance come down to the present day.

The piece on offer is exceptionally attractive, ranking as it does high in the census, in fact, the only AU58 graded by PCGS, with just one graded finer. The striking is full, much luster is present, the rarity is, again, unquestioned, there are only a few ticks and slight marks present, but best of all, the fundamentals are in place for this to create a stir when it crosses the auction block. Pop 1; 1 finer in 62. (PCGS # 8661) .
Estimated Value $27,000 - 30,000.

Realized $28,750
