Lot 2993

1917-S Liberty Walking Half Dollar. Mint mark on reverse. PCGS graded MS-64. A hint of light gold toning on both sides. A sparkling example of the finest order for the grade. The luster is unbeatable, smooth and satin-like, the strike is nearly full, with splendid detail, being quite crisp in most places including Liberty's split thumb and the hair under the cap.

The adopted dies for Weinman's walking Liberty series were in some ways inferior to their Pattern predecessors, because production coins of many dates are weakly struck that on Liberty's cap, facial details, and often the branch hand is blurred, as are the striations representing red stripes on the flag, many stars, and most of eagle's breast and leg feathers. Really sharp strikes occur only on occasion. Pop 188; 39 in 65; 7 in 66. (PCGS # 6573) .
Estimated Value $2,500 - 3,000.

Realized $4,370
