Lot 1743

1796 Draped Bust Quarter Dollar. PCGS graded Fine-12. Popular first year of issue quarter. Even wear with natural toning. Some old light scratches on both sides. Full UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on reverse. On the B-2 variety, the 6 in the date just nudges against the underside of the drapery (on B-1 it is further away with a gap). The colorful aspect of the toning likely arises from this early draped bust, small eagle quarter having resided in one of the old Wayte Raymond style albums. Perhaps it remained in a sulfur paper collector's envelope for a time. Regardless, it shows that it hasn't been cleaned or dipped, although the minor marks, including a deep scratch on the neck, point to it having had a rough ride while it was part of the money supply, way back when. Only 6,146 pieces minted. A one-year Type (PCGS # 5310) .
Estimated Value $20,000 - 22,000.

Realized $25,300
