Lot 1558

1858 Silver Three Cents. PCGS graded Proof 64. Well struck with lovely rainbow toning. The delightfully original mirror-smooth surfaces are alive with color from rim to rim with no carbon spotting to report. Sharply struck and fully lustrous, both sides possess eye appeal to spare. Also, such an early Type 2 Proof is desirable with this exact strike, even though we need to point out some examples show signs of weakness in the central regions, this coin is a brilliant exception to that rule. It has sharpness everywhere with the possible exception of the lower left hand double-outline of the star, where die polishing has left the image slightly broken or merged with the reflective field. Approximately 300 Proofs struck. Pop 31; 18 in 65; 9 in 66. (PCGS # 3705) .
Estimated Value $4,000 - 5,000.

Realized $4,370
