Lot 969

1852-C $2.50 Liberty. PCGS graded AU-58. Well preserved and lustrous. A few obverse marks. Brilliant warm gold surfaces with a tinge of orange. A choice specimen, if a touch weak in the centers, with grand eye appeal, superlative rims, and best of all, low mintage. Only 9,722 1852-C quarter eagles were made. Mint States are all but unobtainable (the Bass sale had a Mint State 63, but that's one for millionaires to buy).

Once again, bidders have before them a coin which combines all positives and nothing negative other than the aforesaid small marks. Pop 7; 1 in 61; 1 in 63. (PCGS # 7764) .

On the reverse of the 1852-C the mintmark is fairly high, with the triangular projection from the arrow feather extending into the open space within the C. Some clash marks are seen at the eagle's wing at the upper right of the shield.
Estimated Value $6,500 - 7,000.

Realized $7,763
