Lot 960

1850-C $2.50 Liberty. PCGS graded AU-55. A nice looking coin. Pleasing old-gold color and surfaces that show a little prooflike reflectivity. Some lightness of strike is noted near the centers, which is typical for 1850-C. From a small mintage of 9,148 pieces, with the bulk of today's known specimens typically Very Fine or so we are pleased to offer a strictly graded About Uncirculated 55. "Generally underrated as a rarity," writes David Akers. A choice specimen, a far higher grade than usually seen. And another splendid piece which represents the scarce early branch mint Liberty quarter eagles in a grand way. An opportunity for the specialist. Pop 15; 6 in 58; 2 in 61; 1 in 62. (PCGS # 7756) .
Estimated Value $3,500 - 4,500.

Realized $4,830
