Lot 383

1856. PCGS graded AU-50. Luster and reddish gold color give this its handsome, "untouched" appearance. A pleasing No Motto $5 gold piece from the rugged years of the 1850s. Curiously, much of the gold bullion that was deposited at Philadelphia and the Southern branch mints in the 1850s came from the California gold fields with returning miners and mining consortiums (PCGS # 8266) .
Estimated Value $240 - 270.

Realized $288
