1921 Alabama Half Dollar, with 2 x 2. NGC graded MS-65. Frosty white with a thin veil of natural milky gray haze. A well struck example of this scarcer early-vintage Commemorative. Curiously, the Alabama commission discovered a trick for improving sales slightly by adding this tiny 2x2 in the field to the die. In so doing, they created two varieties for collectors; today, the 2x2 is much scarcer in gem mint state grades, but just about any Alabama is a worthwhile purchase at the MS65 level (PCGS # 9225) .
