Lot 1019

1911-D $2.50 Indian. PCGS graded MS-62. Lightly toned. The mint mark is clear but not bold yet it is undeniably a scarce product of the Denver branch mint this year. Tinged in delicate golden-orange shades, the luster is even, balanced, finely granular rather than heavily frosted, as is the way with Indian quarter eagles. This unusual design was struck using "recessed relief" dies in a turnabout from the more traditional ways at the very tradition-bound U.S. Mint establishment (PCGS # 7943) .
Estimated Value $12,000 - 14,000.

Realized $14,663
