1861 Liberty Seated Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 64. A marvelous lightly toned proof seated dollar exhibiting a mostly uniform shade of light champagne. All devices are razor sharp and choice. There are some faint hairlines in the fields but none can be seen without the aid of magnification. Walter Breen noted that of the 1,000 proofs struck this year, 600 were melted as unsold. Any Civil War Proof Liberty Seated dollar is significant due to the fact that the business strikes of this era are almost never seen in high grade. Pop of 21 with 5 in Proof 65 and 1 in Proof 67 (PCGS # 7004) .
