1877 Indian Head Cent. PCGS graded MS-63 Red & Brown. A popular "key date" from the Indian Cent series, this example possessing red-brown and bronze surfaces. A very faint film exists in the left field between the legend and the device of Liberty. Luster shifts across the surfaces in a manner more often seen on near-gem or gem examples. A patch of olive-green and golden iridescence is noted at the date. Well struck with nearly full feathers, a scarce condition. Richard Snow commented on the fact that most of the cents from 1871-1877 were supported by the recoinage of pre 1857 coppers, bronze cents and two cent pieces. By the time 1877 came around, the supply of copper had become quite low, resulting in the low mintage of the 1877 Indian cent, 852,500. A very scarce coin in this condition. PCGS population of 76 in MS-63RB (PCGS # 2128) .
Estimated Value $2,100 - 2,300.

Realized $3,105
