Lot 2642

Splendid 1913-S $20 St. Gaudens. PCGS graded MS-64. The 1913-S double eagle has the third lowest mintage figure from this series yet, as is the case with mintage figure/rarity ratios of this time period, it is only a moderate rarity in terms of the total known. With that said, the significance of a near-gem and completely original 1913-S double eagle is a whole other ball game. Noted gold specialist David Akers gave this issue a High Rarity-6 ranking at the MS-64 grade level. Virtually non-existent in gem condition, any gold dealer or collector will appreciate the rich rose-gold coloration and superb surfaces of the present offering. No spots exist anywhere on this beauty. Luster rolls up Liberty's legs, gown and across the eagle's entire portrait and original mint frost is still located in recessed areas. Housed in an old PCGS green label holder. PCGS population of 346 in MS-64, 13 in MS-65 and 1 in MS-66 as the finest (PCGS # 9163) .
Estimated Value $5,000 - 6,000.

Realized $6,325
