1803 $10 Gold Capped Bust. Small reverse stars. PCGS graded AU-58 PQ. Another magnificent early Capped Bust eagle! Deep yellow gold coloration with frosty surfaces and loads of luster. Every detail of Liberty is well struck and free from signs of any circulation. The surfaces are superb in their condition, displaying only light hairlines. A faint adjustment was made at the rim from stars 9 to 13. The reverse of this beauty has the same coloration, accented with splashes of reddish-orange near the periphery. Original mint frost covers all the surfaces as well as the lettering and devices. The feather detail is sharp and uncirculated in condition. A small spine is seen coming off the end of the branch. A single obverse was used with six different reverse dies, four small star and two large star. For the Small Stars issues, this die pairing (Taraszka-26) is the second rarest and quite scarce. This reverse die is quickly identified by the tips of the arrows extending beyond the right upright of N and the first S of STATES resting on the cloud. Additionally, there is a raised die line between the TA of STATES and a die lump above the M of AMERICA. This crisp example should be examined closely as its condition most likely rivals many of the finest examples of this issue and certainly for the variety. PCGS has graded 18 in AU-58 with only 44 finer. Housed in an old PCGS green label holder (PCGS # 8565) .
