1907 $2.50 Gold Liberty. PCGS graded Proof 65 Cameo. A magnificent gem proof with a delicate balance of strong reflectivity, sparkling metal flow lines, deep gold color and sky-blue and olive toning. Gem proof gold of this caliber is extremely hard to find and while this 20th century issue is not the rarest date, take a closer examination of its aesthetic and technical qualities, for they are astounding. Last presented in the Superior 1990 Sale of the 1872 Amazonian Gold Pattern Set as Lot # 2025 where the cataloguer noted "That offered here is so fresh and nice we consider it at the top end of its range". We note that since that time this beauty has been off the market completely and now takes the concept of "fresh" to a whole new level. Someone needing a top example of a 20th century proof Liberty quarter eagle would be very wise to inspect this gem specimen.
