Lot 1800

1880-CC Morgan Dollar. 80 over 79. Reverse of 1878. . VAM-4, Rarity-4. PCGS graded MS-65. A stunning, frosty gem example of this popular overdate Carson City Morgan dollar, a top 100 VAM variety. The pristine quality of the cheek and neck is almost perfect. The only obverse marks to note are some trivial light ticks in the mint frost. Light golden toning is found in a single streak on the reverse. Also, a small diagonal tick mark exists just above WE. Struck from a pair of leftover 1878 reverse dies, hence why the breast feather detail on the eagle is flat. The overdate is clear and the remnants of the 79 are frosty and seen with only slight magnification. An issue seldom seen in such a condition. PCGS population of 277 in MS-65 and only 39 in MS-66 as finest. A.

(PCGS # 7108) .
Estimated Value $2,200 - 2,500.

Realized $2,415
