Lot 1758

1872 Liberty Seated Dollar. PCGS graded AU-55 PQ. The 1872 Seated dollar has the highest mintage from the series, 1,105,500 coins. It is readily available in all grades up to MS-64. Even though the 1872 has the highest mintage, it is actually scarcer than the 1871 in terms of overall rarity. The present example has extremely reflective fields and crisp satiny luster. The eye appeal and quality of this example is far above AU55 and viewers should look closely at this coin. Liberty, the eagle, the motto and all lettering is frosty and bold. A short hairline scratch runs upwards from just right of star 1. There is scuff mark on Liberty's left and right legs. For the money, this cataloguer feels this would be a fantastic example to put away as a type example of a With Motto Seated dollar. The correct grade of this piece should probably be considered Brilliant Uncirculated. Housed in an old PCGS green label, fat letter holder (PCGS # 6968) .
Estimated Value $600 - 700.
The Michael M. Magdic Collection.
