Lot 929

Liberty Seated Dollar. 1858. PCGS graded Proof 63. The passing of time has allowed this proof Seated dollar to mature with a mottled mixture of charcoal, champagne, magenta and gun-metal blue hues. While the obverse is more mottled, the reverse is a deep display of golden and blue tones. Housed in an old green label, fat letters PCGS holder. The fields can still be seen to possess their reflectivity, more so on the reverse. No real marks or scratches to speak of, just a nicely toned proof.
After years of tiny mintage figures from the 1850's, the Philadelphia Mint picked up production and made 300 proofs in 1858. Even though production increased, the survival rate of choice and gem specimens is still small. PCGS Pop is 26 in PR63, 9 in PR64 and 2 PR65 specimens are the finest (PCGS # 7001) .
Estimated Value $8,000 - 10,000.

Realized $9,775
