Draped Bust Dollar. 1799, 9 over 8. 15 stars on reverse. B-3. R-5. NGC graded AU-55. An extremely sharp overdate from a bold strike from the dies. Slight traces of wear on the high points of this lustrous and softly toned beauty. Light hairline scratch from 4th star to just underneath I in LIBERTY. Curls atop forehead are strong. A patch of three tiny nicks at ear and another just left of eye at hear/cheek border. The reverse is sharp and lustrous with light golden toning that casts a nice glow to the surfaces. A faint old and shallow scratch from just back of eagle's head to last cloud. A very strong and appealing example of this scarce variety.
