Liberty Seated Half Dime. 1849, 9 over 8. PCGS graded MS-66. A satiny gem example of this overdate vareity that is mark free and very pleasant. The lower part of the 8 is softly seen to the lower left of the 9 in date while more evidence exists on top of the 9. There are several varieties of overdates from the 1849 half dimes mintage of 1,309,000. This variety and the 1849/6 are the two most prominent while Breen noted the existence of a 1849/8/6 variety. This variety becomes a Rarity-5 issues in mint state and there are only 5 specimens graded MS66 at PCGS and only 6 finer. Light clashmarks on the reverse within wreath. A superb white and lustrous example of this overdate variety (PCGS # 4343) .
Estimated Value $3,000 - 3,500.

Realized $2,875
